THE DAYS OF DEELIA by Sertrude Diamont

THE DAYS OF DEELIA

By

Publisher: Houghton, Mifflin

Eminently readable, this unusual approach to sympathetic understanding of the current Mexican problems and people. Ofelia, ten year old daughter of the Eacoto's, won her battle to become the author's maid, and it was through that opening wedge that Miss Disment penetrated the Mexican facade. One shares with her the markets, the customs, the gossip, the family life of the Eacoto's. One visits a wedding, old style. One shares the horror and sorrow when the stigma of Jew follows Britain German refugees to their new home. A book which will appeal to anyone who has been or is going to Mexico -- and many armchair travelers will like it too.
