SILHOUETTES OF CHARLES S. THOMAS

Georgia plantation born, Charles Thomas came North just after the Civil War, then after his schooling- as a lawyer- headed West to Denver, to practise and to enter state politics. Often involved in handling mining interests, labor issues (his son- the author- shares his anti-labor attitudes), he spent a good deal of time in Leadville and Goldfield as they were opened up- and this loose chronology includes sketches of odd characters, prospectors. Elected Governor of Colorado after the turn of the century, Thomas went on to serve as Senator through the World War I years and after, and retired in 1920..... Local color and ancestor worship, for a restricted regional market.
