THE MARKET FOR COLLEGE GRADUATES

Pub Date: Oct. 28th, 1949
Publisher: Harvard University Press

A studious and comprehensive survey of the problem of the rapidly growing college graduate group whose findings offer facts and figures of an even larger B.A. and Ph.D. proletariat with an even smaller proportion of appropriate openings available for them. Proving that the education product is in excessive supply the preliminary half of the book investigates the general background of the questions arising -- the increasing trend toward college education, the current disproportion of careers demanding degrees, does education pay, displacement of labor by the graduate, income, the importance of women in the picture, and the necessity for proper public relations instruction as to the true facts, economic, social, etc., of such a growing college population, the removal of restrictionism in some professions, and other measures. The latter half provides detailed analysis and documentation of the statements in the preceding sections. A book worthy of study by all educational heads, college trustees and boards, and discussion groups. Serious in its import and style.
