NEHRU'S STORY

A puzzling book to place for young Americans. One questions much interest in the subject at this age level, and yet the next older level would feel it was, perhaps, somewhat written down to them. The author wrote the book originally for India's children. It has been expanded somewhat to make certain things understandable to Americans; and still assumes certain familiarity with India and its people and history. Viewed as a portrait of Nehru, and his personal story, it fulfills its aim. But one finishes it without feeling that those wholly unfamiliar with India's unique history and problems would have gained a sense of the background against which Nehru's life has been lived. A beautiful piece of bookmaking, but I'm afraid its market is limited.
