The chronology of a criminal career in the making and in action, this relates the murders committed by Violet Russell; in the past as she did away with her father and a paying guest who paid off better with their final departure, and in the present as she kills half-dotty Miss Florence Brown for her savings account. Miss Brown's sister, Phoebe, and police inspector Johnson, put a stop to this. A British setting and style which is simulated- and fairly drab at that.
