IT'S YOUR ENVIRONMENT: Things to Think About--Things to Do

An environmental primer that sometimes reads like a catechism, this wide-ranging but easygoing grabbag especially for city children has been put together from the ""best"" issues of the Environmental Action Coalition's Eco-News. (And the format and doodles retain the informality of a newsletter.) Topics range from energy sources to organic farming to weather and climate, and suggested activities include making ""your own solar energy collector"" from two tin cans, growing vegetables in pots, setting up a recycling center, and using a plastic bag ""pooper-scooper""--this last comes in a chapter delicately titled ""dog litter problems."" Other problems (city birds, roach control, and noise abatement) tend to be glossed over, but as a loose looking, all-purpose early alert this is solider and more serious than Betty Miles' Save the Earth! (1974).
