The title tells all, or almost all. There are some 3,500 quotations, divided into 350 categories arranged alphabetically from Acceptance to Zeal. In addition, there is a subject index and an author index. Calvin Linton explains, in the introduction, that it is practically impossible to compose a volume of quotations which does not somehow contribute to the continuation of civilization and the well-being of the reader. This collection is no exception to that rule. Its value to writers and speakers is enhanced by the editors' painstaking and knowledgeable selection of quotations from some unexpected and little known sources -- both ancient and modern.
