KIRKUS REVIEW

Amateurish story of a Long Island boy in whaling days, who grew up in the atmosphere, helped his mother run the whole oil business in his father's long absence, and shared his intimate knowledge of the industry in all its parts with young people who knew less than he did. Date is valid enough, but story limps and characters are two dimensional.
