CITY! SAN FRANCISCO by Shirley Climo

CITY! SAN FRANCISCO

By

Pub Date: March 1st, 1990

Having had the bad luck of going to press during the most recent quake, this contains just a brief note acknowledging its occurrence. Primarily addressing the juvenile traveler, Climo surveys the Bay Area's geography, summarizes San Francisco's history, describes the city today, and suggests points of interest to visit. The 1906 quake receives passing mention as a contributor to the city's architectural evolution; there is no discussion of its geological causes. The political and artistic scenes are barely mentioned; ethnic diversity is emphasized. Ancona's color photos are well reproduced in double-spread arrays that sometimes break the text mid-word; they give a good sense of the ambience and visual excitement of this beautiful city. Maps; index. Not outstanding, but useful.
