The distinctive style will be familiar from the Gobles' handsome recreations if nothing else; Glubok shows us the strong, decorative originals--painted buffalo-hide robes and tipis, beaded dolls and medicine bags, and other such artifacts--and explains their central roles in the Plains Indians' lives and customs. It's the sort of material Glubok handles best, where each design has a story to tell, where form follows practical or magical function, and where aesthetic considerations need not be articulated.
