KIRKUS REVIEW

Perhaps we're so drowned in darkness and doubt that even Dean Case' certainty doesn't quite convince us -- perhaps, and this is more probable, there are so many books being written today to bolster our courage that we're apt to grow weary of them. It is the assurance of history, and not the fabric of wishful thinking, however, that this author serves to hungry hearts. Professor of Philosophy of Religion at the Divinity School of the University of Chicago, the author is an important writer -- so be prepared -- this just may be a dark horse.
