KIRKUS REVIEW

Australia, and the strange idiom and custom of the bush country lending a somber overcast to a story of death in the land down under. Dick Thewan, returning home to Kinie Ger where he, and several others, all orphaned, had been brought up by Huldah, who remained unseen in her rooms, finds that a jailbird Carpenty is now in charge. With the expected murder of Carpenty, the unexpected murder of Huldah's brother, and Huldah's disappearance, they finally reach the reason for Huldah's hibernation, her quartercaste heritage and her reversion to the aborigine... A very foreign flavor to all this.
