WONDERS OF THE AQUARIUM

A practical and efficient volume for tank tenders of any age begins its survey of aquariums and aquarium fish by mentioning the earliest pet fishes in history. These might possibly have been kept in earthen jars by Sumerians, but more definite data is obtained from China where the earliest gold fishes were bred and raised. The interesting chronology is followed through Roman times and on up to the real beginning of scientific aquariums made by the London Zoological Society in 1852. Moving to particulars on home aquarium keeping, the rest of the book is given over to equipping and caring for a tank, and the traits of different kinds of fishes to put in it. Good.
