MUSIC FOR FUN

Not so important or constructive a book as Virgil Thomson's The State of Music (Morrow -- page 452), but a sincere plea for more joy in music for the general public, through better understanding and greater opportunity. Not a deep study but a simple presentation of how to get more out of music by putting more into it, and of how parents can share the youngsters' music games. He gives some simple rules for the playing of basic chords on piano, accordion, guitar; how to sing, etc. He suggests songs worth listening to, facts about composers, classical and popular. He makes it all fun.
