KIRKUS REVIEW

We watch through an unblinking, all-observant eye the transformation of Dudon-- petty embezzler, compulsively nasty-- as a serious automobile accident opens a new life to him through the largesse of the responsible driver. Leeching on to the ""new lease"" Dudon puts salvation into reverse as inevitably and completely-- with all details in place-- he becomes a bigger variety of the same species of insect that he was before the old lease terminated. Simenon without Maigret is still Simenon-- superb.
