A difficult book to place, and one destined -- in spite of great beauty of writing -- for a rather limited sale. The story hinges on a pathological case, a geologist ridden by strange humors and maddened jealousy of his lovely wife and his three children. In the tense atmosphere created by the husband, the wife is able to maintain control through complete self-discipline and self-sacrifice. The book won-in France -- the Prix Interallie for 1932.
