THE NEW OXFORD BOOK OF ENGLISH VERSE

By

Pub Date: March 7th, 1940
Publisher: Oxford Press

A new and revised edition of the standard anthology of English verse, adding 100 poets and bringing it down to 1918. There is new material in some of the old sections, strengthening those parts dealing with medieval lyrics, with carols, etc. Among the new poets represented are de la Mare, Emily Dickinson, Rupert Brooke, Gogarty, Housman, James Joyce, Stephens, Phillpotts, Dowson, and many others. There is no pretense of including any of the ""moderns"" but at least this puts the seal of approval on some more or less contemporary writers hitherto ignored.
