KIRKUS REVIEW

A more personal record than the earlier book, The Crossing of Antarctica, this recalls the perilous ventures, the near escapes, the heartbreak of delay, the all-pervading fear of crevasses, more from a human interest point of view. With less of the British understatement, too, we relieve all the problems of this daring expedition and although the news value is at a minimum, armchair mountaineers and explorers will find it equally absorbing reading.
