KIRKUS REVIEW

Burton's translation from the Arabic is one of the classics of the erotic. Burton's translation was first issued in 1886, raising Victorian eyebrows and temperatures even higher than they had gone over his translation of the Kama Sutra. The introduction by Alan Hull Walton provides a history of the various editions which have appeared since the book's discovery in manuscript, as well as a discussion of its anthropological significance.
