In this nostalgic memoir about the beauties of the academic life, a literate nun-writer manages to give little-understood insights and meanings into the reason for the education of young women in our times. She sees the necessity for channeling college courses in a direction of personal benefit to the vast majority--those who will be marrying. Sister Gilbert sees the curriculum as a preparation for this state of life. The case is presented against the background of life in college, -- specifically Holy Names College in Spokane, Washington. The book is also an apologia for the girls' college, specifically the small one. The contribution of the nun-teacher in this situation is underlined. The author has a good sense of humor and a light touch. Though thinly veiled as a plea for support of the small school, the book offers a sprightly look at the challenge involved.
