KIRKUS REVIEW

Mechanics and its evolution is the subject of this easy-to- read survey. Tracing the history of propulsion from its earliest stages when man painfully manipulated rocks into motion by means of stick levers, through the advent of pack animals and wheeled vehicles, coaches, trains, and finally engine propelled vessels, this text, illustrated by Bette Davis, allows the reader a perspective of the history of locomotion without exceeding his verbal and intellectual scope. A good supplement for classes in beginning reading.
