The Bible story of Davis is retold here with a full background of the period and the customs of the time. It makes a good hero tale, with color and drama and adventure, and the author has handled the characters and relations of Samuel and Saul and Michal and Abigail with David, the central figure, admirably. David emerges as perhaps too flawless, viewed from an adult study of the historical facts, but that is a bit beyond the needs of the early teens, and this helps make one period of the Old Testament come alive as something more than a Sunday School story. Illustrated by James Daugherty. Suggest as Easter gift or Sunday School Lenten prize.
