MY VILLAGE IN BRAZIL

Two days with Clovis Menesis de Jesus who lives in Itaim and commutes five days a week to the Sao Paule markets with his father--which means both urban and rural scenes. In introducing members of his family and his friends Clovis reveals much about their lives and the on-the- spot confrontations--scorpions, two capocira fighters (acrobats), slum children--bring out the boy as well as the Brazilian. Clovis and his friend are determined to obtain the autograph of the country's greatest soccer player so their resourcefulness (posing as flower delivery boys to get past the police) is an added attraction. (They claim to represent the Itaim soccer team, ask for eleven autographs, and sell the extras!) Cavanna's Paulo of Brazil has less personality; this has more of a down-home character, even if Clovis occasionally seems too professional a narrator.
