The author is a clinical psychologist who writes a local society column. She sounds more like the latter but you can't knock what is essentially a very complete diet-rite book: in between the thirty day regimen of 1100 stark calories for women, 1600 for men, there are exercises (illustrated); discussions of substitutes; liquor; nutritive values and long lists of foods with these as well as calorie charts. And recipes, with more alluring names than ingredients. Nothing is very new about the diet itself which is extremely severe except for the three a day ""round, fat, yummy"" lollipops -- men get hard candies, although one wonders about that secondary sex distinction which assumes that round, fat women will want to suck round, fat, yummy lollipops.
