MEDITATIONS FOR BEGINNING RELIGIOUS

Under proper guidance, postulants who may be unfamiliar or unpracticed with mental prayer, should find the series of 220 short meditations in this volume a useful introduction and practical guide, as they embark upon their new, spiritual form of life. The meditations are contained on 160 pages of loose-leaf sheets in an envelope. This is to aid concentration on one meditation at a time. The considerations and the language of each exercise in mental prayer are simple and clear. A variety of methods is employed in the development of the separate meditations. While definite subjects, thoughts, images, suggested emotional reactions, resolutions and actions are provided, the manner of presentation allows for considerable freedom on the part of the one meditating. The subjects are attuned in a general way to the course of the liturgical year. Intended for systematic use in the convent, the exercises sketched in this volume could be adapted in many instances to teach the layman an art of mental prayer.
