The world's first citizen led an adventurous youth, and here is his story. One could wish, for the average American boy, that there was less meticulous detail as to regiments, officers, military etiquette, etc. but perhaps that is asking too much, for the story is so absorbing a one that it comes through as grand true adventure of a world figure. From struggling school days through 26 years of finding a way to do the thing he felt he must do -- achieving the impossible -- gives one faith in the future of England in his hands. Follows closely the known facts of his career -- the army, with service at successive fronts, Cuba, India, Egypt, the Sudan, South Africa, wherever there was action, Churchill was in it. The story of his capture and escape from the B is perhaps the highspot of the tale. Ends just as he goes into politics. Good picture of the man in the making. Author's asides give a slightly amateurish flavor.
