SONS WITHOUT ANGER

First novel by the playwright, poet and critic. Interesting -- holding, but inclined to overdo the melodrama. The story of four sons forced to make their own way when the father, who has been king pin in a Connecticut town, loses home and factory. Unprepared to meet the challenge, the sons take different roads:-one tries to drink his way out, another, country club swaggerer, reveals a ruthless streak; the third shows himself to be a post-war decadent. Only the doctor son finds an answer for his kind and generation in service to the poor. The book reads well. It is a problem that many families must face. But it doesn't quite take the form one feels the author intends.
