DEAR MAD'M

Dear Mad'm is a lady who at eighty set forth for a life alone in the Klamath Forest of Northern California. There she made friends with Dear Sir and Up'nUp, whose wife and child finally come to join the mining community. She helped a young Indian girl who studied the Thesaurus and Emily Post to find herself; she planted her garden with hindrance from the miners' mule; killed a cougar with a big gun and assessed her claim to advantage. Considering her choice a year later, she was helped to a decision to stay in the Siskiyous by the friends who needed her as much as she needed them. Frisky.
