FUNNYMAN'S FIRST CASE

Waiter, there's a fly in my soup!"" This particular line doesn't show up here but a goodly number of similar waiter jokes do. It seems that waiter Archie just can't pass up an occasion for a snappy comeback, even though cafe owner Mr. King threatens to Fire him for it. After a string of such jokes, Archie is fired, but he wins his job back when he spots notorious robber Big Red at the cash box--and captures him by rendering the robber helplessly hysterical with a rat-tat-tat barrage of corny jokes. De Paola puts Archie through a capering variety of vaudevillian poses, and the jokes go by so thick and fast that readers will be caught up in the momentum.
