CHRISTIAN FAITH AND OTHER FAITHS by Stephen Neill

CHRISTIAN FAITH AND OTHER FAITHS

By

Publisher: Oxford

Bishop Stephen Neill (Anglican), Secretary of the Department of Studies of the World Council of Churches, is an ideal author to write of the Faiths of the world in their contemporary significance. As former Bishop of Tinnevelly in South India, he has had the opportunity to note first hand the impact of many of these religions. Always the author seeks the positive, constructive truth to be found elsewhere and evaluates the impact on Christianity and the counter-influence of Christianity on each Faith. Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism-each is treated objectively and sympathetically. The active primitive religions are especially important in view of the renascence of nationalism in Africa and other backward countries where they are still a mighty power. Bishop Neill's expositions of Communism and Existentialism are clear and tremendously informative. Any student of comparative religion or of the present day political scene will find this book valuable because of the part religion is playing in the affairs of Africa and the East.
