The least successful volume in this series, which on the whole has held to a good standard. In the first place, cowboy stories -- so labelled- appeal to younger boys than the teens would suggest. In the second place, the fact that these are stories written by one- rather than several- authors, puts a rigid tax on his abilities, and his utter lack of any real sense of style becomes painful after an accumulation of stories. Some of the stories have a breezy, wide-open-spaces tone, others a rootin' tootin'air, all of them are fast-talking and slick --almost in the comic book cowboy tradition. Just possibly they might serve as a bridge over to better things, but it seems to me there are better vehicles. The book comes complete with an article on brono busting and a glossary.
