KIRKUS REVIEW

Perhaps Spender is too much a poet to be a story-teller. Perhaps we are singularly unappreciative of his vague, impressionistic, oblique interpretations of character and mood which he terms stories. Some exquisite bits of writing -- but utter disregard of the first principles of story telling. The market is a rather esoteric one, we should say.
