RIVER OF WOLVES

By

Publisher: Harcourt, Brace

Quite different from most of Stephen Meader's stories, for this is historical fiction and excellent adventure background material. Dave Foster, working on his uncle's farm in Maine, is captured by the Canadian Indians, incited by the French to attack Colonial settlers. Adopted by his Indian captors, he spends a long winter in the Indian village where he acquires Indian skills in hunting, trapping and fishing, and a sense of responsibility and dependability growing out of his feeling of being a contributing member of the tribe. With the coming of Spring, Dave and a fellow captive, a girl, make their escape to white civilization and home. Well-sustained story; good supplementary reading.
