KIRKUS REVIEW

This latest by the popular author of adventure stories has a high seas and Hawaiian setting. Seventeen-year-old Rodney Glenn feels the lure of the seas, particularly after meeting a stranger with a wealth of whaling experience, a stranger who left Rodney with the mysterious words: ""Call me Ishmael!"". But Rodney had some adventures worthy of a Melville -- shipping on a whaler, battling through terrible storms, tossed up on a strange island as the only survivor of a shipwreck, hunting with an Hawaiian boy, and finally reaching civilization in a can found in the tomb of an ancient warrior. There is a little romance too, with a lovely half-Hawaiian girl, and a career in ship-building ahead.
