Little ones learn all about their animal friends.

The wide, wide world of animals is on full display in this board book. From squirrels to chickens to whales and ants, this simple book’s range is surprisingly expansive. Each animal is given an entire page, featured in its natural habitat (more or less), and described with a characteristic. Some are obvious ("Fish are great swimmers"), while some are a bit silly ("Ants find food at picnics"), but all are quite easy for little readers to grasp. The bright illustrations are also fairly basic, getting the job done but not popping in any memorable way, and with very few exceptions, they do not take advantage of juxtaposition in any artful way. The book's final pages feature all the animals in one big splash, reminding readers of all that came before. This book works best as filler in the storytime stack. Few readers will insist upon its inclusion, but none will shun it either.

A solid but unremarkable read.
