KIRKUS REVIEW

.... not with death, but trouble, as three companies engaged in the fur trade attempt to reach rendezvous first- with the most. Mountain man Mordecai Price, faced with the defection of another, must get the pack train through alone, and is slowed up by a female passenger, Rhoda Marsh. The long crossing is a hard one, hopeless- save for the intervention of Jim Bridger; and for Rhoda- with marriage to a missionary in mind- the journey's end brings a different destination.... In this field, a deviate which has both humor and spirit.
