A book about 22 ways of looking at snow accompanied by exceptionally evocative pictures. On each page appears a piece of very short verse about snow in its various manifestations. Each page has a window in the middle—about a quarter of the page—with a winter scene painted inside; most include a child enjoying the wintry landscape. The scenes are highly stylized miniatures, filled with little snow-covered trees, crows, and rabbits, in solid, rounded shapes. The flattened depth-of-field of the settings makes the stylization complete. The frames set the pictures apart from the text, even while they echo it; if Sanfield (Strudel, Strudel, Strudel, p. 393, etc.) provides smooth lyrics, it is Winter who crafts them into a small, harmonious book.
