PUSH COMES TO SHOVE: The Escalation of Student Protest

Harvard senior Steven Kelman's testament will be most welcome to moderate radicals or radical moderates or whatever people call themselves nowadays who advocate democratic socialism but despise SDS and much New Left rhetoric, tactics, and intolerance. A very personal account (including ""Notes from my Freshman Diary, 1966-67"" that is as much about the ""Harvard experience"" as about Harvard politics), Push Comes to Shove records the events and shifting attitudes on campus that led up to the violent occupation by Harvard students of a university building (in April 1969), a police bust, and a student strike. Others undoubtedly will paint these events in different colors, but Kelman has gotten in there with a strong first stroke.
