AMANDA AND THE GIGGLING GHOST

Not one to cower in the dark, Amanda refuses to yield up her pink baseball hat to the ghost who invades her room in the night; and when he takes some of her other stuff, she chases after him. The trouble is that the ghost then goes on a snatching rampage through other homes and shops in town, and the people wake up to find their stuff missing and Amanda dashing away. Soon everyone in town is chasing her, and they refuse to believe her story about the ghost--until he returns when Amanda is locked in her room. The ghost agrees to give all the stuff back in exchange for Amanda's hat, and Kroll foregoes the ambiguity of many ghost stories just to vindicate Amanda: he has the giggling ghost appear to the assembled townspeople and allows her a self-satisfied ""See, I was telling the truth."" The pictures add some spirit--and Amanda's spunk adds some feminist points--to what is otherwise a limited sort of satisfaction.
