ARTHRITIS by Steven Tiger

ARTHRITIS

By

Pub Date: Dec. 3rd, 1986
Publisher: Messner

A detailed and specific introduction to one of the most prevalent diseases, by a physician assistant and medical journalist. Arthritis covers several infections and/or conditions of the joints; Tiger carefully describes and differentiates them, outlines diagnostic techniques and treatments to alleviate pain and slow the progress of these incurable conditions, emphasizes the importance of exercise and normal weight in reducing wear and tear and keeping joints flexible, and concludes with brief comments on ""fake cures"" (such as copper bracelets) and the areas open to research. Medical terms are further elucidated in a pronouncing glossary. The clear, workmanlike illustrations extend the text; oddly, an eight-page color section bound between pages 32 and 33, with its own pagination, has captions which amplify the information provided with similar black-and-white illustrations elsewhere in the book, but is nowhere else referred to, even in the otherwise complete index. A clear, useful survey.
