POLE STAR

Alaska, in the time of the Russian occupation -- an adventure story, with an authentic background of those early days, and the romance of a lovely Russian girl and a youth, whose father is the commandant of the fort, and whose mother was a full breed Indian. One can count on White for sound historical romance, compact, paced somewhat slowly at times, but always interesting. There are none of his Long Rifle series characters in this. An unfamiliar background and a period of which little has been told, so should have plus sale through school libraries and children's room shelves for older boys and girls.
