KIRKUS REVIEW

Sub-titled ""An Informal Study of Certain Classic Crimes in Back-Country America"", this is a brisk, colorful, and cleverly recounted selection of ten crimes. There is both variety and originality in the selection; the backwoods backgrounds range from coast to coast. Joshua The Second, the rolling revivalist, Harry Orchard, addicted to dynamite, Belle Gunness, the Bluebearded lady, (with fourteen hired men and husbands to her credit), The Sparling Case, among others make eccentric executions. Holbrook has a certain name, and the true crime fanciers will enjoy this collection muchly.
