Author-historian Stringfellow Barr's animal fantasy teeters on the edge of a sentimentality that could weaken its purpose- to show that ignorance and poverty are humanity's biggest failings- but it remains an honest and sometimes humorous narrative. Centered around the adventures of an untrimmed gray poodle who wants to be educated, the story takes ""Copydog"" from her Virginia home to India. There her wanderings in search of the wisest men leads to a practical knowledge of what India is trying to do today:- for India a more equal distribution of wealth; for the world the role of mediator. It also leads to the selflessness with which Copydog returns to her own community. Read aloud, this will have good entertainment and open up broadening possibilities.
