A POSSIBLE THEATRE by Stuart Vaughan

A POSSIBLE THEATRE

This ""subjective view"" of experiences by a man who has directed at the New York Shakespeare Festival, the Phoenix Theatre, and has served as the creator and artistic director of the Seattle Repertory Company, will be of special interest to those confronting the problems of resident repertory companies. The play-by-play dissertations cover all aspects from technical areas to casting to direction to grants from the Ford Foundation. Rather regrettably the ""subjective view"" also includes diatribes about egocentric actors, numerous unnecessary insertions of glowing reviews, and a long and bitterly defensive look back at the head of the board of trustees that suddenly ousted him from the Seattle company. It will however serve as a warning and a very rough guideline for others involved in this impossible possible theatre.
