PROFESSORS AND OTHER INMATES

You may remember Professor X from a year ago (This Beats Working for a Living) shooting off his mouth on his liberal un-American colleagues and his knuckleheaded students. Now, student S, his crony from, presumably, the same anonymous university, vents his spleen on our institutions of higher learning. Like teacher, like student, the only difference being that whereas the professor bitched from right-wing frustration the student -- he's a 30-year-old sophomore and that should tell you . something plays it for laughs in frat houses where this book may rival swallowing goldfish in popularity. Ranking professors as a breed slightly below both the idiot and the ass in God's creation, the author revels in smutty stories about how they award A's for the favors of pretty coeds. Evaluating the curriculum he offers the intelligent comment that foreign languages ""should be reserved for foreigners."" There are similarly edifying discussions of dorm life and the administration. But Student X is at his most constructive when addressing the problem of drugs on campus. He has an alternative high: spend a night alone in a graveyard. Wow! This ""creates the same type of mind-expanding situation."" Whatever criteria we use to evaluate this -- taste, style, judgment, veracity -- it gets an F.
