THE WORLD OF THE FOUR FREEDOMS by Sumner Welles

THE WORLD OF THE FOUR FREEDOMS

By

Publisher: Columbia University Press

A collection of addresses, delivered between 1939 and 1943, to groups ranging from the National Foreign Trade Conventions to meetings of the Foreign Ministers in South American capitals. The focus varies but the main emphasis is always on the need for practical cooperation among nations to build a lasting peace after the war and the necessity for this country, particularly, to assume the foremost responsibility in the post-war democratic world. Some of the speeches are more specific in recommendations than others, some are warnings, some are on economics, others on stupidity, some are eloquent, others more sober and factual. All combine to forge weapons in the war of ideas, offer pungent quotations, clarify thinking for the average man here and now. Name and newsworthy.
