Truly, a sound household reference: data from hundreds of US Government pamphlets on diet and health, logically arranged. The problem is that the pamphlets are frequently updated, so this may soon be out of date; but in the meantime, it's fine. Part I is Diet and Nutrition: how to buy, store, and cook almost every food there is; what constitutes a healthy diet; food additives and their uses; vitamins and so on. Part II is Health and Physical Fitness: how to prevent problems like high blood pressure and stroke; how to walk and run; separate detailed fitness programs for men and women. Among the many charts and tables: Nutritive Vales of the Edible Parts of Food, calorie contents, salt contents, weights and heights. The information is clearly and straightforwardly presented, per the source; and though there are few surprises, there is much reliable, eminently practical help. A hardy compilation that saves readers the trouble of sending away for dozens of pamphlets.
