YOU AND ME, BABY: The Official YMCA Guide to Prenatal, Postpartum and Infant Fitness

A safe, helpful exercise guide that covers the range from prenatal mother to postpartum mother and baby. These non-obsessive programs were developed and are now established in YMCAs country-wide; they are relaxing, and could be fun. Regnier first describes the developments of pregnancy--with strengthening, stretching, and relaxation exercises. Routines to assist immediately pre -and post-delivery follow, paying attention to the needs of mothers who have Caesarean sections. (Included are exercises to be done in bed.) The next step is getting back into shape at home--and Regnier takes time to explain how exercising can help ease the emotional turbulence. Finally, she focuses on the new baby, offering three massage and exercise programs covering the period from birth to one year. (Some involve both parents' participation.) A healthy, easygoing, proven approach for mothers and babes; readers who wish to concentrate on baby, or who have older children, can move on to Suzy Prudden's Exercise Program for Young Children.
