STOP KILLING YOURSELF: Make Stress Work For You

Competent but worn advice on combating the ill effects of stress. Seliger follows the usual outline--first explaining the mind-body link, and how the mind can influence immune system function. She then moves on to self-assessment tests: on health habits (""see whether your habits are making you older or younger than your years""), and risks to health (via charts explaining prominent risks for each age group). Finally, Seliger turns to risk reduction. She endorses regular exercise (laying out a spotty, home-based calisthenic-type program), specific stress-reduction regimens (meditation, self-massage), and stop-smoking programs. She offers advice on improving sleep and diet, and on first-aid measures. This is all routine: an assemblage of well-based pointers on lessening the harmful effects of stress by improving one's general state of health--that replicates material in many another guide.
