MY NAME IS TOM CONNALLY

Tom Connally was born in the 1880's in East Texas on a cotton farm on the verge of what was then known as the Black Belt. With his father's help, he got through school in the horse and buggy era, and was graduated from the University of Texas law school. As a fledgling lawyer, he had a rough time, but with his move to Marlin and then Waco- he also moved into political offices- and finally a senate seat. He served in the Congress for 36 years; was instrumental in the F.D.R.- John Nance Garner election race; and at all times has been a vigorous, indigenous figure- known for his humor which freewheels through his narrative- and for his honesty. A regional, and to some extent, political market- for a memoir which records an era as well as a lifetime within its frame.
